Animation

 For the past 2 weeks I've been working on an animation elective. From start to finish I've loved every minute! My idea was to make a comic looking animation. It had to be edgy, violent and exciting! I looked at some artwork from Frank Miller for inspiration, I love his style. Here are a few pictures that I found:

I flicked through a few more comics looking for the right style. Blade comics had great artwork.

So once I had written my script and drawn up my storyboard I had to figure out how to animate it. I decided , with help from my tutor, to Roto-Scope it. At the time I didn't have a clue what roto-scoping was, so I had to find a few examples. Here are a few that I found:

  

These videos, and a few others helped me understand how it worked. I then had to record my video that I was going to rotoscope over. I got help from two friends with the camera work and some acting.
I immediately started work in Photoshop once I recorded the video. The pace was slow and the work was tedious at first but once I got used to it I found a good rhythm. I also had to animate one scene in flash. Once everything was finished it was time to piece them all together. Most people in the room used premiere pro but I was told to use after effects and now I'm glad I did. The video was put together in no time, it was great to finally see it running together and looking good! I then had to work on the sound. I found numerous sound effects and a song fairly easily online. When they were added in correctly the animation came to life. Sadly I am having issues rendering the video at the moment so I cannot post it just yet, so I'll throw in a few stills for the moment.

Heres the video itself, having sound issues still but it all about the animation really!

Contextual for Sculpture Elective

So here are a few artists who I feel inspired some of my ideas.

Eva Hesse

 Sans II, Made from fiberglass and resin. I like how she left empty spaces and draws attention to the structure holding it all together instead of the main shape of the piece.

I like how the hanging fabrics make a line drawing of sorts on the wall.

The subject matter of these pictures is just a stone and rope but the free flowing movement of the rope makes for very interesting images.

Another example of using sculpture as a way of making line drawings. I feel i reflected this in my work.

Sculpture Elective.

So for the past two week I've been in sculpture and i'll be honest, its not for me but I did enjoy certain aspects of it. Here are some pieces of my work to do with 'Taking away':

They're a bit abstract but that seems to be what I'm meant to do! I do love the shoes though, next summers sandals sorted!!

Print Elective

So for the past two weeks I have been working solely in the area of print, an area of art in which I have great interest. We got to try drypoint and mono printing for the first week of the elective, which I have to say I did not particularly enjoy. It just didn't seem like my thing. But just as soon as my love for the discipline waned, woodcutting came back into my life and print and I could see eye to eye again.

Contextual Research (Print)

So i've been looking at a small few printers that have caught my eye lately.

Tobias Till

I love how Till focuses on intricate detail within urban spaces. His prints of London city and airport are overflowing with tiny details. I drew inspiration from when I decided to do my A3 print of limerick city. I tried to focus on the little details that I thought would make the print look great.

Another great example of a printer that focuses on very detailed prints.

I love how he puts his own spin on everyday urban sights and makes a statement at the same time. Here are some examples of that:

Those were my two biggest influences over the past two weeks. They helped me figure out which direction I wanted to go in with my work.







Last few!

So just a few more little bits before my assessment!

 These are a few pictures of my last two cans during the peeling process and afterwards. There's also a few pictures of all of my best casts together. The last two are of a little bottle that I filled with wrappers. I think its shows compression well and its looks really cool with the shine from the wrappers.

I used stop motion to create this  video. I had to work backwards though, because you cant really crush a cup in slow motion! I have two versions uploaded, one is the original, the other is one that I added a filter to.
